Version 5.0 is now available!

Version 5.0 is available as of September1st!

Now why is this a whole new version, and not simply a general update?

Simply put, I made too many changes to simply call this an update. Most notably, two of the dungeons have undergone complete renovations. They are not the same dungeons anymore, so they are technically not of the same version. I started getting on a creative train, and realized that I had released three updates in three weeks. Well, rather than update the game every week and go through the tedium of re-downloading the game every time, I figured this time I would simply keep working on the game until my creative streak was done, then release one massive update with all the new changes at once. Your old save files are still compatible, although there are some basic install instructions that are important to note. Please see the home page for download instructions if you are updating from a previous version.

Now, what changes took place this time? And why?

First, I updated the EXP ring to double spell progression as well as combat experience when equipped. This makes grinding out spells levels much more bearable, especially on New Game Plus, where having higher level spells is almost a necessity.

I also added Mage enemies to every castle in the game, so that you won't be fighting the same old boring soldiers everywhere you go. Little more variety, a lot more danger, and a lot more fun.

I determined that some of the exits and map transitions were a little too obscure, and hard to find if you didn't know exactly where to look. So, I added directional arrows that point to those exits when you get in close proximity. Then I got carried away and added them to all the houses and buildings. And then to every village and town. And dungeon. Look, trust me, it's just better.

I made a whole bunch of little quality of life improvements along the way, such as updating the graphics and icons of some weapons and items, some new spell animations, adjusting the power of spells, a couple of really cool graphical updates and some minor bug fixes, changing the in-game clock to display AM/PM time, adding beaten path through the snow in some of the snowy regions, and enhancing collision checking at rounded corners for cliffs and ledges.

I also modified some of the late-game puzzles that were a tad too challenging to create an alternate, easier path if you fail the puzzle too many times. Just to make it a little less frustrating.

And, for the big kahunas.

The Tower of Lux and the Tower of Unda have been completely remade. They are not even close to being the same dungeon. Aesthetically, they are much more appealing, but the puzzles within them have also been dramatically improved, and give a much stronger impression of those dungeons being considered "water" dungeons. Because of this, however, you'll want to make sure that you save your old files OUTSIDE of these dungeons before you update your game. Your files are still compatible, and you technically won't lose any progress or have to start the dungeons over, but you may get stuck if you update the game while saved inside the dungeons.

And finally, new bosses have been added. Three new story bosses have been included to the Caeli Forest, the Tower of Lux, and Glacio's Throat. In addition, there are nine more optional "raid" bosses available after certain points in the game at each of the different dungeons in the game. Everything from Belua Prison to the very last dungeon now has a special boss that will take all of your skill and knowledge to be able to defeat, but will reward you greatly should you do so. They are, however, completely optional and have no bearing on the story. Each of the twelve new bosses are once-per-playthrough encounters, and provide a much more daunting - and satisfying - challenge to the game.

I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point, but I've learned enough not to say that this will be the last update. My brain always seems to come up with one more idea. I will, however, make more of an effort to space out the updates. Or, maybe I'm wrong and this truly is the definitive version. Regardless, thank you so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy the new version! Happy playing!

Version 5.1 is available. There was a bug that would prevent the player from progressing any further mid way through the side-mission "Last Wish." The bug is fixed in 5.1, as well as a few other smaller fixes. In addition, more chests have been added to most dungeons, and the quality of loot has been improved. Sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you for playing!
