August 1st Update Available Now!

A new update is available as of August 1st, 2021!

I realize that this is the third update I've released in three weeks, but hopefully this will be the last of them (barring any bug-fixes). I unwittingly made the status ailment durations a little unbalanced with the last update, so this update corrects those imbalances. However, not to waste an upload, I have also included a handful of other updates with this release that I felt inspired to introduce. Those updates are as follows:

Firstly, the status ailment durations have been balanced, specifically Shroud, Sleep, Horrify, and Insanity. The previous update made each of these ailments last a certain number of turns per enemy on the field at the time of activation. Now, the number of turns per enemy has been reduced, but each ailment has a base number of turns that compounds after. For example, instead of Shroud lasting 8 turns per enemy (8, 16, 24, etc.) and compounding rather quickly, Shroud will now last 4 turns per enemy, plus a base value of 4 turns (8, 12, 16, 20, etc). This effectively balances the skill durations without making them ineffective against a single enemy.

The second change addresses usage counts for skills and spells. Originally, every skill would count the number of times it has been used. Now, a spell or skill will only count the number of uses if it is able to level up. For example, Power Attack or Concentrate cannot level up, so the use counter has been removed. Fire II, however, can level up to Fire III, so the use counter is still in effect. In addition, this counter will now track your progress to the next level. Instead of simply stating the number of times the spell has been used, it will state the number of uses out of the necessary amount to the next level (e.g. Uses: 7 / 15). If a spell has been used enough times to level up, but a character is not a high enough level themselves to learn the next level of spell, the counter will simply be removed until the character reaches the necessary level.

The third update adjusts the Arena in Sapphane. The spectator matches have been improved, providing the contestants with Steel weapons as opposed to Iron, improving their stats, and including a variety of skills for them to use so that the matches are more interesting than a simple exchange of attacks until one side falls. The competition matches have also been improved to increase the number of enemies you can fight. Now, instead of simply fighting Soldiers and their various ranks, you may also fight a random enemy from the list of Assassination targets. These enemies will also scale in difficulty based on your wager.

The final update adjusts the difficulty of enemies in New Game Plus. This is the update I am most excited about, as it creates a lot more variety in the types of enemies you can face. In the first playthrough, enemy stats may vary based on their strengths. For example, a Crab may have enhanced defense over other enemies in that region, whereas a Wyvern may have enhanced agility or attack. In New Game Plus, however, all enemies scaled to the level of the player, making them essentially identical except for their elemental weaknesses and abilities. With this update, enemies in New Game plus will still scale to the level of the party leader, but will also have a specified strength that sets them apart from other enemies, enhancing one or two stats to create a more dynamic combat experience. You may encounter enemies that have considerably higher health, or are slightly faster, or maybe hit a bit harder. You can gauge these differences in the Monster Log in the menu as well, so you won't be going in blind. Finally, monsters in New Game Plus that cannot use spells will no longer have MP, much like in the first playthrough, preventing them from being targets of the spell Leech.

There may be some compatibility issues with this version and previous versions, but to my knowledge it should work fine. If anyone comes across a bug in this version from using a previous save file, please let me know and I will attempt to correct it as soon as possible. Thank you for your support, and happy playing!

Just a quick note for anyone who has downloaded this update on August 1st. I discovered a minor bug where enemies would not properly scale in difficulty in certain dungeons in New Game Plus. The bug has been fixed and the downloads updated as of August 2nd, but if you downloaded the game on August 1st the bug may still be present. Apologies for any inconvenience. Thank you for your support and happy playing!
