Happy New Year!

Happy new year, one and all!

With the new year comes a new demo, and a host of updates. I had hoped to get the demo out sooner, but things just didn't work out that way. Regardless, v0.8.3 is available now!

What's new?

  • Added a pity system for loot types
  • Fixed multiple game-crashing bugs
  • Improved EXP gain for better balancing
  • Minor dialogue changes and typos fixed

There's not much new content in this version, but there are two main things I want to highlight. First, there were a few critical bugs that could crash the game in the previous version. To the best of my ability, these have been fixed. The most common and egregious crash would happen any time the repeatable optional job "Rescue" or "Delivery" were taken and embarked upon. I had altered some files in the game, but forgot to remove the events that referenced them in the job system. This has been rectified, and all optional repeatable jobs are fully functional again.

The second thing I want to call out is the new pity system I've implemented for loot types. With this system, the game will now keep track of how much of a given loot type has been found, and prevent that type from appearing again until all other types have been found at least once. Then the system will reset. This works for both weapon and armor types.

For example, let's say you find three swords in a row. This new system will then prevent swords from appearing until you've found at least one of every other weapon type (spear, axe, mace and knife). This way, you will never find more than 13 weapons without at least one of them being the type you are specifically looking for. Same goes for armors. You'll never find more than 10 armors without finding at least one in each category.

The purpose of this system was to make the left skill tree for each character a little more viable. Every character has three branching skill trees, and the left tree for each focuses on a specific weapon type (axes for Brutus, swords and maces for Lionel, knives for Damien). But if there's no guarantee of finding that particular weapon type, players will likely be less inclined to focus on those trees. Now, you can fully explore those skills without worry about if you never find your specific weapon type.

That's about all there is for this demo. Mostly I just wanted to address the game crashes, since those were way too awful to leave unattended, but I'll never pass up an opportunity to implement new features if I can. At any rate, the demo is now available to download! Happy new year, and happy playing!
